Serenity walked out of the shadows, her hands clasped behind her back. "My husband died. He died trying to save our son." She pushed away any feelings, any thing that might interfere with what she had to do.
"What do you want, Sith? I'm sure you won't find it here."
Tirus smiled, "Oh come now Serenity. Doesn't seeing me do you good? Don't you remember the wonderful times? The good times? Don't you even know why I did this? I traded my life for our sons life. He has been set free. I've made sure of that. You can't hide your feelings from me Serenity. I know you won't kill me. Could you really kill the chance at saving your husband?"
"Listen to him do not! Deception and pain are his ways now." Yoda turned and looked at Serenity, "Leave you must Serenity. Go to the son that you still have before an orphan you make him." Yoda looked back at Tal with a determined look on his face.
"Yes run little Serenity. You always were good at that. Go to the memory of your husband. Or perhaps he IS here? Perhaps you can save him! Maybe only you have the power to save what is left of dear Tal Mantalus..." Tirus put his hands behind his back and smiled.
She laughed at him, "I may be naive and idealist, but I'm not a slow learner. You think I'll fall for that? I thought that I could change Anakin and I failed." She folded her arms, making sure he saw that sometime between his leaving and this meeting, she had removed her wedding ring.
"And I learned running from your Master. And I'm starting to learn it from you, too. So whatever you've hoped to achieve by coming here, you're going to fail. Hasn't being a Jedi taught you anything? In the end, the Sith always fail. And you will, too."
Tirus chuckled slightly, "Do you wish to cause me pain?! What makes you think you haven't already!?! I am not here to achieve anything but your death!!! I don't care about you, Yoda, or anyone else! I did this for our sons! Not for YOU! You have shown them love, shown them passion, isn't that part of the Code of the Sith?
'Peace is a lie, there is only PASSION.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.'
So there it is my dearest wife. You are teaching our children the Code of the Sith. I guess I should thank you for that."
"ENOUGH!" Yoda called out. Before Tirus could defend himself, Yoda had pushed Tirus against a tree and held him there. "Defend your blasphemy, you will not! Cause more pain, you will not! Leave...you will!"
Tirus struggled against Yoda's grasp, "I...think not my old master!" A bolt of lightening shot out from Tirus' hand and destroyed a tree next to Serenity. It began to fall and knowing full well that she would be able to get out of the way, it caused Yoda to turn, and gave Tirus the perfect chance to push Yoda back, and jump into the leaves. He hide up in the trees looking down at them.
"You see Serenity! You teach the ways of the Sith. I don't come here to kill my son's, I come here to FREE them of you and your 'Jedi' ways. I remember the training. I remember the pain, the lose, the failure!! Now I have been made into something better! Something MORE! If only you knew the power of the Dark Side Serenity! Screw the little green fool! He teaches a dead art! I feel the Force around me like I haven't in so many years! I am better, stronger, faster, and more powerful than you!! You can't beat me Serenity and you don't want to either. I KNOW YOU SERENITY! You can't kill someone you love! Join me and we can be a family again! Join me and we can raise our sons to be something wonderful and great!" Tirus smiled as he watched Yoda and Serenity searching for his voice.
In the back of Tirus' mind, a voice called out and struggled to be heard. All at once, his implants erupted in anger and burned his flesh. He gritted his teeth in pain as Tal fell to his knees on the limb, "SERENITY.....RUN...PLEASE!!!!!" Was all that Tal could manage. Something was fighting back, something was pushing to get out, to be heard, to feel again. Tal wanted his body back.
Serenity watched the struggled, and as much as she wanted to save him, her need to get her son out of here was more predominate. She pushed the small button on her comm link, signaling her son to pull the ship closer.
Tal did like she'd instructed, flying low enough as he opened the lower hatch. Serenity heard the ship, and waiting from the right moment, she jumped up, running into the ship as the hatch closed. She moved to the cockpit, "Punch it, son."
And he did, pulling up and moving into the atmosphere. Serenity punch in a few random coordinates, and within no time, they were in hyper drive. And Serenity got up from her seat, moving to the back of the ship. She couldn't focus on anything at all. Her heart was breaking, but she didn't really want Tal to know the real reason why.
Tal watched the ship blast off into space and nodded to himself slightly. He was then overcome by complete hatred and pain as the device in his heart sent waves of pain directly into his body. He curled up in anguish and collapsed off the branch. He fell down hard and hit the ground hard, his head hit a rock and his vision went blurry for a moment.
He looked up at a green figure standing above him and knew it was Yoda. Tal was fighting, hard, but he was losing. There was just one way to end this, one way to maybe get out of this hell. He slowly and painfully reached for his lightsaber and knowing what he was about to do, let the blade snap to life. Hot tears fell down his face as he turned the blade on his own body and cut it into his chest. He let out a cry of absolute agony and pain as he cut around the device. The lightsaber went silent and he threw it aside as he dug his fingers into his chest and pulled hard. The metal device came out in a bloody, nasty, sweaty mess. It was black with metal barbs that still had chunks of muscle and flesh on it. It had small electrodes all over it and was sparking as he threw it aside.
His vision went blurry again and he looked over at Yoda. A smile played over his face and blood rand own his cheek. Yoda looked down at Tal with a knowing look. Tal reached up to the small green figure, "Forgive...me....master......." He coughed hard and blood went flowing down his chin, "Tell my family.......I'm....sorry.....and.....I love....them...."
One last cough, one last jerk, his eyes went soft and his breathing easier and softer. Muscles relaxing, his hand fell to the ground as his eyes began to grow dark.
"Forgive you I already have, young Jedi Knight. But over your story is not." Yoda reached over with his green fingers and placed them on his chest. He closed his eyes and called on the Force to rebuild and repair. The Force answered and the tissues in his body began to heal, reshape, and reform. The Force brought his life force back and placed it into his torn body. His heart fluttered, his lungs rasped, and his eyes flickered. All at once, his body jerked and he coughed hard, dispelling much of the blood from his lungs.
After a long while of hacking and coughing. Tal turned onto his side and looked tiredly looked up at Yoda, "Master? What happened?"
"Brought from the dead you were. But not the first time, I sense. Come. Much to learn you have young Jedi. But first, rest you must." Yoda's kind heart used the Force to carry Tal back to his hut. Inside, he was placed on the floor and covered with blankets. There, Tal rested.
.....His eyes fluttered open and he looked at Yoda cooking over a small fire. "Awake you are. Many weeks you have been sleeping. Much rest you have gotten. But begin your training you must, or lose the rest of the Jedi, we will."
Tal sat up slowly and felt the pain in his chest. He felt the soft tissue where his heart was and looked up at Yoda. "Thank you Master....."
"Thank me now you will not. Not until you complete your training, will the thanks be given. Until then, you are a learner of the Force. Much to make up you have. Much to forgive. But one thing at a time. First, you must eat. Yes eat." Yoda handed Tal a bowl of hot stew and he sighed. He had much to be forgiven for...
